Sometimes you are too good.  Sometimes you are not good enough. Sometimes you can't get a team together.  Don't worry, everyone plays.  Our only limitation is if we have more goalies than teams.

Wondering how we manage to fit all these skill levels together and get a great game?  Well, we'll ask a few questions, you'll provide a few honest answers, and then we'll let the computers analyze all the data and pick the teams so every roster is evenly balanced.

Play on a different team

We all love playing with our regular season teammates but sometimes you just have to change it up.  Playing with new players against different teams challenges your skill and gets you out of your comfort zone.

How many times do you see players at the rink but never have a chance to meet them or play hockey with them?  A lot...and that's why we are doing this tournament.

A primary goal of this tournament is for all skill level players to experience tournament hockey.  Our tournaments are proven to provide a competitive, fun game.  In fact, in our last tournament, the championship games ended in a shootout or a winning goal in the last 45-seconds.

How the tournament works

Who plays?

All adults (18 and older) who sign up will play.

How many games?

FOUR games will be played - 3 pool play games and 1 playoff game.  Each team will play one pool play game on Friday, two more on Saturday, and then be paired up for one playoff game on Sunday.   Games begin no earlier than 5:00 pm on Friday, and the final game concludes by 1:00 pm on Sunday.

What are the dates of the Shamrock Shootout?

March 20-22, 2020.  The Shamrock Shootout will be played at Centennial Ice Arena in Billings, Montana. Registration will close on Sunday, March 15, 2019 at 11:59 pm.  No refunds will be offered after registration closes. Registration will not be available at the tournament.

How much does it cost?

Registration is  $90 per skater, $60 per goalie, and $100 if you register to be on the same team as a friend (see below for details).   Register early since registration will close when we reach 104 skaters!

Register with friends or family - New for the Shamrock Shootout!

Two players of low-to-medium experience  can now  register so they are placed on the same team. Since leveling the teams is more difficult with player pairing, it will cost an extra $10 per person.  Note: We do not allow very experienced players to register with a friend since it would be too difficult to balance the teams.   If players are too experienced, the computer program will notify the players they cannot be paired and the players can choose to register individually.

Beverages and Snacks

The Beer Stand will be open during the tournament on Friday and Saturday.  All registered participants will receive a "bottomless" beer cup at registration.  Powerade and snacks will also be available for purchase.

How do I know what team I am on?

Each player is notified of team name, roster, and game schedule on Wednesday of tournament week.

What if more goalies register than teams?

Goalie skill is one metric used in leveling the teams.  If there are more goalies than teams, the highest ranked goalies will be assigned to a team.  The highest rank goalie not placed on a team will be asked to be a back-up for the tournament at no cost.  Goalies not assigned to a team or asked to be a back-up will have the option to skate out.  If these goalies elect not to skate out, their tournament fee will be refunded.

What about jerseys?

You will be loaned a tournament jersey when you show up for your first game on Friday at check-in.  You will add a bit of aroma to the jersey and then return it after your game on Sunday.

Returning your jerseys?

Following your last game, the jersey's will be collected in the locker room.  Please return them since we can clean them and reuse them at a future tournament.
